Noble Jones arrived in Georgia in 1733 and eventually leased 500 acres on the Isle of Hope. The name “Wormsloe” comes from Jones’ English home. The iconic avenue of oaks, planted in 1891, features 400 live oaks and is a hallmark of Savannah. During our visit to Wormsloe, a Colonial Faire event was taking place. It also happened to be Super Sunday, which meant that many museums across Georgia were offering free admission. We decided to adjust our plans to visit Wormsloe to coincide with this fantastic annual event—free entry plus a special event bonus!

Crooked River State Park is a stunning Georgia state park with numerous walking and biking trails, abundant wildlife, and breathtaking views of the St. Mary’s River. This river forms the border between Georgia and Florida. I read Where the River Ends by Charles Martin last year, which is a fictional story set along the St. Mary’s. If you’re interested, you can check out the Goodreads review here: [Where the River Ends]. I love reading books set in places I can later visit—do you enjoy that too?

Lunch with Family
We had a delightful lunch with my cousin John and his wonderful wife, Mary. What a great couple! We shared many laughs. John and Mary drove up from Jacksonville to meet us, and we were so grateful for that. Funny enough, John and I aren’t technically cousins, but we both call Pearl Munoz—my father’s brother’s wife and his mother’s sister—Aunt Pearl. If anyone can figure out the exact family connection between John and me, let me know! For now, we’ll stick with “cousins.” It was so wonderful to see them doing well—thanks, John and Mary!

Jekyll Island Adventure
The highlight of our time on the southern coastal route was visiting Jekyll Island. We had an absolute blast riding our electric bikes along the coast, making our way to Driftwood Beach and back. The weather was a bit overcast and chilly, but that only added to the enchanting atmosphere of Driftwood Beach. Be sure to stop by the first visitor center before entering Jekyll Island. The staff there was fantastic at giving recommendations on how to see the most in a short amount of time. We packed a simple picnic lunch and enjoyed it on the pier halfway through our ride. We love packing our own meals so we can eat whenever and wherever we want—it’s also a great way to save money!

Saying Goodbye
When it was time to pack up and move on, we felt bittersweet. I would have loved to stay a couple more nights, but we were excited about our next stop. We had surprise visitors waiting for us (well, it was a surprise for you, not us), and we couldn’t wait to see who they were.
Catch us next time to find out who came to visit and where we were headed!
