2 Month RV Trip Review – The Stats, The Challenges & The Beautiful Places We’ve Seen!

If you’re considering extended travel, it won’t take long to realize it’s not all picture-perfect Instagram moments—there are definitely some challenges along the way. That said, we’re still incredibly grateful to be on this adventure, especially after the long Vermont winter we left behind!

We wanted to share a bit about what it felt like leading up to this trip after years of planning—those final few weeks were something else! Along the way, we’ve faced some unexpected bumps (like a major electrical issue early on that really made us question everything). While we didn’t mention it in the video, those of you following us know it was a tough start. Fortunately, we haven’t had any major system problems since then.

Here’s a Look at the Stats:

  • Tow Vehicle: 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 HD (Gas) – Sam has mentioned more than once how happy he is that we upgraded, especially when we’re climbing above 6,000 feet and navigating steep descents.
  • Travel Trailer: Grand Design Imagine 2600 RB (30 feet, rear bath) – It’s marketed as a couples’ trailer, and for us, it’s been just the right amount of space. Thankfully, our outdoor setups have given us plenty of room to spread out wherever we land.

The Numbers:

  • Fuel Costs: $1,724
  • Average Fuel Price: $2.79/gallon
  • Total Miles Driven: 5,855
    • Towing: 4,079 miles
    • Local exploring: 1,779 miles

Where We’ve Stayed:

  • 9 States
  • 7 State Parks
  • 10 National Sites (Parks & Monuments)
  • 2 Harvest Hosts
  • 2 County Parks
  • 1 Dispersed Camping Spot

Misc. Costs:

  • 1 Propane Refill: $20
  • Laundry: $70
  • Average Nightly Stay: $49
(Note: This doesn’t include our stay at Disney’s Fort Wilderness—we consider that a separate vacation.)

Staying Healthy on the Road:

We set a goal to maintain healthy habits while traveling—and we’re proud of the progress!

  • Biking:
    • Sam: 105 miles
    • Laurie: 77 miles
  • Walking & Activity:
    • Laurie has taken 60% more steps and increased her exercise minutes by 126%! (Which probably says a lot about her pre-trip routine 😄)
    • Sam has kept up with his regular workouts and even added yoga.
    • We’ve both made camper yoga work surprisingly well in a small space!

🎥 Check out this week’s video where we dive into what’s surprised us most, what’s been disappointing, and what we absolutely love about life on the road. We also share some tips for anyone just getting started.
