Our latest RV adventure took us deep into the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, where we settled into the peaceful Smokemont Campground—a quiet, tucked-away spot inside the national park that felt like a true escape. Surrounded by mossy trees, rushing creeks, and the soft glow of campfires, it was the perfect place to slow down and breathe in the beauty of the Smokies.
A Special Anniversary in Asheville
From the campground, we made our way to Asheville, North Carolina, a city that mixes mountain charm with vibrant culture. This stop was extra meaningful—our 40th wedding anniversary. To celebrate, we enjoyed a special dinner in town before spending the next day exploring the iconic Biltmore Estate. Wandering through the mansion’s grand halls, strolling the manicured gardens, and soaking in the sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains felt like stepping back in time. It was the perfect blend of romance, history, and celebration.
Next Stop: Pigeon Forge Adventures
After Asheville, we headed north to Pigeon Forge, where the energy shifts from tranquil mountain mornings to neon lights and non-stop attractions. Sam wasted no time diving into the action—literally—by taking on a mile-long zipline that soared high above the treetops. The views were spectacular, but the adrenaline? Even better.
Then came Dollywood, the crown jewel of Pigeon Forge entertainment. Sam tackled the thrill rides—roller coasters, drops, twists, and turns—while we took in the park’s warm Appalachian charm, music, and food. It was one of those days that leaves you smiling long after it’s over.
Unexpected New England Connections
As if the trip wasn’t memorable enough, we also had the chance to meet up with Steve and Ginger, friends from back home. Running into familiar faces so far from home was such a joy—it reminded us how small and wonderfully connected the world can feel, even when you’re out exploring new places.
Final Thoughts
From peaceful days under the Smoky Mountain canopy to milestone celebrations, high-flying adventures, and heartwarming reunions, this trip had a little bit of everything. RVing through this part of the country gave us time to reflect, celebrate, explore, and appreciate the people and places that make life so rewarding. Here’s to the next journey—and the next 40 years of adventure.
