Leaving the snow and cold in Vermont wasn’t a hard choice however deciding what was going to be on our “things to do” list has proven to be harder than anticipated!  The fact is, which I know but have trouble accepting, is that we can’t do it all.  We used the RV Life Trip Wizard to plan our route, but for sightseeing, we’re mostly improvising, with just a few bucket list items in mind.  

We spent three nights in Charleston and as we mentioned before this was a maintenance stop more than anything.  We did manage to squeeze in a few hours touring the waterfront in Charleston and revisiting Folly Beach.  As we moved onto Georgia our stays would be a bit longer.  Not ever doing this kind of trip before we were not sure how much time to spend in each spot, also considering that we need to be in certain spots to meet up with our surprise guests later in the trip!  

We booked 5 nights at Skidaway State Park 20 minutes outside Savannah city.  Georgia state parks are notorious for being hard to land a site and it’s no surprise why. The park is gorgeous! Our site was huge and private.  We loved all the trails, both walking and biking.   Sam is not really a fan of city life so the amount of time we spent in Savannah center was just right.  As you will see from the video, the ice cream stop at Leopold’s is not to be missed!  They have been serving their ice cream since 1919 and in our opinion, have perfected it.

Another great spot near Savannah to visit and very close to the state park was Wormsloe Historic Site.   A review of this and the rest of our coastal tour will come in the next video. 

Fort Pulaski National Monument was another site we visited near Savannah.  Our first time to use our America the Beautiful pass on this trip and to get a stamp for our passport book.  They allowed dogs so we brought Annie along to walk the grounds around the fort.  Annie even received a “bark ranger” tag.

Packing a picnic lunch we ate at the fort which had a picnic area that we could enjoy.  We walked out to see the nearby lighthouse Cockspur Island Lighthouse.  The lighthouse stands 12 miles from the port of Savannah at the south of the channel.  We saw a cargo ship headed for port passing as we walked the trail.

The weather has been absolutely wonderful with highs 75-80 degrees and sunny.  Let’s hope it holds as we drive onto St. Mary’s Georgia and another beautiful state park, Crooked River!
